El Paso

In the town of El Paso on the island of La Palma you will find the Hermitage of Our Lady of Bonanza. This temple was founded by Ensign Salvador Fernández in 1691 and has a single nave and inside it is worth highlighting the impressive coffered ceiling in which Mudejar elements are combined with others of Baroque style. The paving of the Chapel of Our Lady of Bonanza is made of gray stonework covered by ornaments. Of the Hermitage also it is necessary to emphasize its masonry walls of natural stone and mud with impressive Baroque salomónicas columns. The hermitage is one of the symbols of the town of El Paso on the island of La Palma, a place of great value both hermitage that has the Cataloging of Asset of Cultural Interest.

The island of La Palma has always had great artisans, who have known how to adopt external cultural influences and has managed to preserve the essence of local craftsmanship. Craftwork has been one of the most important economic livelihoods for many families in La Palma and has been passed on from generation to generation until today. Silk has been one of the oldest and most recognized trades since the La Palma was incorporated into the Corona de Castilla new textile techniques of the time were introduced . In order to pay homage to these beginnings of the silk textile industry and preserve the ways of working of yesteryear, the Taller de Las Hilanderas was founded in 2002 in the municipality of El Paso on the island of La Palma. The Artisan Silk Workshop and Museum " Las Hilanderas" is dedicated to the creation of silk garments and the sale of these items. The products that are elaborated in this museum are made with the techniques that the first craftsmen used to obtain the silk of the cocoons of the worms and their subsequent manufacture. The Museum offers guided tours and sale of silk garments and is located in the heart of the municipality of El Paso.

Like a whim of Nature, the Cascade of Colors is shown to the world with unusual shades of reds, greens, yellows ... Hidden in the Caldera de Taburiente National Park is this waterfall to which the mineral mixture Iron, water and volcanic rock give those curious shapes and colors.

The viewpoints scattered around La Palma are perfect places to enjoy incredible views of places from different parts of the island. One of these viewpoints is located in the municipal area of El Paso and receives the name of Mirador de Las Chozas. The Mirador de Las Chozas is located in the Lomo de Las Chozas, to get there it can be done through a hiking route that has the name of La Cumbrecita - Lomo de Las Chozas. A simple route and in which you can see numerous panels in which it is reported the different geological accidents that are found throughout the journey, such as dykes, ancient eruptions etc. Once you get to the Las Chozas viewpoint, a rock breakwater is projected into the interior of the boiler and you can have a perfect perspective of the entire interior of it. . From the viewpoint you can also have a perspective of the Huanauac ravine on the left and Rivanceras on the right.

The Caldera de Taburiente National Park is a protected area of Spain, located on the island of La Palma, in the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands. Like the rest of the archipelago is of volcanic nature, but it is distinguished by the great quantity of hydric resources that it possesses, as much subterranean as superficial.

The caldera of Taburiente is a place full of beauty and biodiversity, you can make spectacular hiking routes through many points of this spectacular place. The river Taburiente runs through the caldera until it reaches a point called Playa de Taburiente. This beach is not a normal beach, it does not face the sea, in fact this point of the island is very far from the ocean, it is a natural spa that has the shape of a rambla and is one of the gems of the park. The Playa de Taburiente is a perfect place to cool off in a perfect natural environment surrounded and from where you can see the Roque del Huso and the Roque Salvaje. Undoubtedly the Playa de Taburiente is one of the most charming places in the whole route.

On the island of La Palma, in the municipality of El Paso is the volcano of Desired, also known by the name of Pico or Natural Area of La Deseada. This point is at an altitude of 1949 meters above sea level, is a long row of volcanic peaks and is part of the spine that divides the slopes of the southern part of the island in two between the lighthouse of Fuencaliente and the popular refuge of El Pilar. The mountain range in which the natural environment of La Deseada is located is known as Cumbre Vieja and has a length of 5 kilometers and a height that varies between 1500 and almost 2000 meters. It is interesting to note that despite being called Cumbre Vieja it is the youngest part of the island and it is formed by a series of volcanoes, of which four have had volcanic activity in the last 500 years, which proves which is one of the most active dorsals on the planet, as well as offering privileged views on both sides of the island.

In the municipal area of El Paso we can find the Hermitage of Our Lady of the Pine. This temple is the destination of many hiking trails that run through this part of the island of La Palma. Even the hermitage is reached by going over the top of the crest that borders La Caldera de Taburiente, passes through the Morro Morisco, petroglyphs of Tagoror in the Pico de la Sabina, Lomo Corralejo, Degollada del Río. The area passes through the refuge of the Punta de los Roques from where you can see a spectacular view of the entire range of Cumbre Nueva and Cumbre Vieja strong>. You can also see a jet of water at the beginning of the Track of the Row and from here you descend to the Hermitage of La Virgen del Pino, mandatory stop to take strength and continue to know the whole area.

El Parque Natural de Cumbre Vieja ocupa buena parte del sur de la isla de La Palma, dentro de los municipios de las dos Breñas, la Alta y la Baja, Mazo, El Paso y Fuencaliente. Fue declarado como Parque Natural en junio del año 1987, aunque por aquel entonces estaba separado del paraje natural de interés nacional de Coladas del Volcán de Martín. No obstante, ambos se unieron en un solo Espacio Natural, de forma oficial, en diciembre del año 94. Este parque engloba a una buena parte de los conos volcánicos del sur de la isla de modo que incluso hay un sendero que lo atraviesa casi en su totalidad al que se le conoce como la "Ruta de los Volcanes" desde la que hay unas vistas impresionantes que abarcan toda La Palma e incluso las islas canarias más cercanas. Varias son las erupciones sufridas en su historia, aunque una de las más importantes es la que ha sucedido en septiembre de 2021 que ha supuesto grandes pérdidas personales y ecológicas.

Situada en el Parque Nacional de la Caldera de Taburiente, en La Palma, cuenta con una superficie de 15.000 m2. En verano y Semana Santa solo se permite acampar dos noches, y en el resto del año, hasta 7 días, siendo el máximo número de personas por grupo, 10.

Situado entre El Paso y San Isidro, la zona de acampada Refugio del Pilar tiene capacidad para 150 personas y acceso a autocaravanas. Tiene aparcamientos, asaderos, zona de baños y aseos y parque infantil.

El Mirador de la Cumbrecita es un balcón natural que abre al interior de una caldera de seis kilómetros y medio de diámetro, ubicado en el Parque Nacional Caldera de Taburiente, en la isla de La Palma.

El pico/volcán de la Deseada es el punto más alto de la Dorsal de Cumbre Vieja, en La Palma, un lago espinazo volcánico que divide esta parte del sur de la isla.
